The San Mateo County Office of Education provides leadership and support to public schools through its three Divisions: Instructional Services, Fiscal and Operational Services, and Student Services.

Instructional services and resources include Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment, educational technology, preschool, professional development, Program Improvement, Outdoor Education for 5^th graders and the SMERC Library.

Fiscal services help districts manage over $500 million annually and maintain compliance.  Accounting, budgeting, and payroll functions maximize revenues.  Other services include processing warrants and preparing W-2 forms and PERS, STRS  and Social Security reports.

The County Office operates Special Education programs for students with severe disabilities, Court and Community Schools for 2,000 at-risk students, and Regional Occupational Program (ROP) career technical preparation courses for 5,000 high school students and adults.
